Patellofemoral joint pain

January 30, 2013 by

Knee pain or Patellofemoral joint pain (PFJ) – The main knee joint (between the femur and tibia) suffers from wear and tear problems (i.e. Osteoarthritis, Kissing lesions of the femoral condyles) and traumatic injuries (i.e. Meniscal tears, Ligament ruptures to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, Posterior Cruciate Ligament, Medial collateral ligament, Lateral collateral ligament). The PFJ also has “wear and tear” injuries to the under surface of the patella (knee cap) as well as the other end of the spectrum where excessive growth and acitivty of much younger patients can result in (Chrondromalacia Patellae, and PFJ maltracking). It is important to look above below the knee as poor biomechanics at the foot and ankle as well as poor lumbopelvic-hip function above can result in excessive strain on the knee.
