Your first visit

Diagnose

On your first visit, we will ask you what your main concern is. The subjective examination (interview part of the session) aims to identify that Physiotherapy is indicated for your condition (and that you don’t need to be referred on to another clinician i.e. an Orthopaedic surgeon or other specialist), and to select the tests that are carried out during the physical examination to confirm your diagnosis. You may need to expose the body part to be examined so please wear appropriate clothing.

During the examination we will listen to your concerns and answer your questions openly and clearly. At the end of the examination your diagnosis will be explained, the prognosis (% recovery and length of time to recover), and the approximate number of sessions will be advised (no one can give you a fixed number of sessions as we check your progress on each session to see how many YOU need, everyone is different).

Treat

You will receive treatment on your first visit that is tailored very specifically to you. As every body and therefore every condition is different, treatment approaches and techniques may vary during or between sessions, after careful re-assessment of your condition, to be as effective as possible. Treatment can include manual therapy (joint and soft tissue manipulation and mobilisation), sports massage, acupuncture, taping and exercise therapy.

Cure

We realise that curing you means working with you, rather than telling you what to do. That long lasting result we all want to achieve takes hard work and that is what we aim to achieve with every patient. The key to long term success of your rehabilitation involves regular maintenance of your exercises, a good variation in your daily movements and activities, and also managing the daily stresses of life to keep mind and body happy and healthy.
